What I’ve Discovered working in the “Real World”
One of the things I enjoy about being employed in the “real world” is getting to know people for who they are away from “church” (in case you’re wondering, there is a difference). And one of the things I quickly discovered is how many consider themselves spiritual or religious but want little or nothing to do with an organized church. If I get the privilege of exploring that struggle more deeply, I usually notice one of three themes playing itself out in the narrative of their story:
- People believe that the Bible isn’t relevant to their lives.
- People have had bad experiences with others in church and Christians are just hypocrites.
- People believe that they just don’t need God. They’ve gotten this far without Him, are extremely busy, and are doing just fine, thank you
The thing is, there is a lot of truth in their personal experiences, but when I have a chance to really listen to their stories, I find something else is at work:
- The Bible IS relevant to their lives — it is alive and powerful and has the ability to penetrate to the soul and connect with us in deep and meaningful ways.
- Christians ARE hypocritical and in many cases shouldn’t be trusted any further than they can be thrown. But here’s the truth about hypocrites… we can’t change ‘em. We can put boundaries around our interactions with them, and limit the power we give them in our lives. But at the end of the day, the only person I have the power to change is me, and the only person you have the power to change is you.
- We Do need God. We CAN’T do it ourselves – We can do a lot ourselves, but there are many who fool themselves into thinking that given enough time, they can do anything they want and that simply isn’t true.
So Why Another Website?
I have been playing with the idea of creating a blog for quite some time, but have always had a reason as to why I couldn’t. After mentioning my ideas with friends and family, there was a great outpouring of support urging me to share my thoughts and insights in a Blog because they believed I had much to share. So, after a somewhat large learning curve in the blogging software, and a little help from my friends, here it is – loginmyeye.com. It’s my hope that you’ll find the wisdom here applicable to your life and by living that wisdom, you’ll find the abundant life that Jesus came to give each of His followers. And, if you were one of those people who spurred me on to this endeavor, thank you J
One Final Thought
Jesus teaches us the principle of the protruding log in our eye and His point is indeed a valid one. Please, as you’re reading, and you notice something that might apply to someone else’s life, apply the truth your life first, and foremost. Then, and only then, if you have an invitation, feel free to share it with another so that they too might build their life on the rock of applied truth.
And, if I may be of any further support in your journey, please feel free to contact me. I’d be glad to help any way I can.
